A Platform for Discussing Revolutionary Concepts of Life
Life Understands Existence by Constructing Digital Realities
Existence comprises everything there is, including nature, the cosmos, life, and all life’s constructions. The inanimate part of existence interacts within itself and with living things through analog processes. These processes are fully objective and determinate, but because they are analog they cannot be directly understood in terms of discrete objects.
Life is a unique part of existence. Through evolution, life has introduced space, time, and discrete objects into analog existence. These innovations let living things understand existence digitally and construct artifacts that would not otherwise exist, including themselves. Life’s additions to existence are digital and they constitute reality.
Understanding is a unique process that life has evolved. It digitizes existence into realities of objects, actions, categories, and patterns. The result, knowledge, is stored digitally in living things and in their genomes. The best way to analyze knowledge is through axiomatic set theory, not through the mathematical analysis of analog measurements.
Realities are parts of existence constructed digitally by living organisms, including by humans. We do not try to understand analog existence directly—we understand only the realities that we build from it. During four billion years of evolution, life has learned to digitize existence into discrete objects in time and space. The digital realities that we construct are all we know.
DR Theory explains how life converts analog existence into digital reality.
